Kundalini Yoga has been called the yoga of awareness. It is presented in the form of ‘kriyas’; a kriya is a sequence of postures (asanas), physical exercises, breath work (pranayamas), meditations and mantra that has a specialized effect on the mind, body and spirit. There are literally thousands of kriyas in Kundalini Yoga and each one is a whole unto itself, a perfect jewel that acts to create a particular flow. Kundalini is a Sanskrit term that represents the evolutionary power that resides in every human being, and its awakening releases the spiritual and creative potential that is our individual and collective birthright.
HOT-26 (Bikram Method)
Hot-26 a series of 26 postures completed in a room heated to approximately 100-105 degrees. This strongly Bikram influenced sequence, emphasizes heat in the room as helpful in allowing the body to go deeper into the postures safely by increasing the elasticity of the muscles, ligaments, tendons, allowing greater flexibility with a lower risk of injury. The heat also facilitates sweating and detoxification through the pores and skin – the body’s largest eliminating organ. The heat also greatly increases the challenge to the cardiovascular system, allowing for a challenging workout and greater fitness levels to be achieved. Finally, the intensity of the heat deepens the need for concentration and focus, strengthening the student’s willpower and self-control both in the classroom and beyond.
The Sanskrit word Shanti means peace, the peace that pervades the whole universe and our whole being. It is often hidden by the agitation of the world, of our thoughts and actions. Our goal in this class is to restore this peace, which is also strength, light, beauty, and harmony. Through deep breathing and gentle stretching, without force, and listening to our body, we awaken the energy centers, the Chakras along the spine, allowing life energy, Prana to flow like a river in our whole being, removing stress and tension, bringing peace and joy.

Yin yoga is just like any other yoga but practiced in a slow and relaxed manner . Yin focuses on the bones, the connective tissues, ligaments and internal organs and also pays attention to the body’s meridians to help send prana or qi throughout the body. The postures are always performed sitting or lying down with the aim of allowing the muscles to relax completely. The postures are held for several minutes and an entire class might cover only 7-10 postures depending on how long it lasts. During each posture there is time for meditation and an opportunity to relax the mind. In Yin yoga we do not stretch and there is no ‘goal’ or aim for perfection. We simply focus on keeping the body from becoming muscularly tensed and then allow ourselves to sink deeper onto the posture once the mind and body become relaxed. This is not always easy! But, with patience, we start to become ‘present’ and thus release tension and resistance in an organic and natural way. Yin yoga can be practiced by anyone. It suits athletic bodies as well as inactive and immobile bodies. Its is a perfect compliment to more physical styles of yoga. It helps relieve back pain, knee pain, neck pain and can help soften hips, hamstrings and quadriceps when practiced slowly and regularly.

This all-levels class blends the grounding power of asana infused with the subtle streams of mindfulness, focus, care, and relaxation.
